Child Theme

A child theme serves as the foundation for customizing and extending the functionalities of your main theme without altering its core files. In Kind, the creation of a child theme is a pivotal step toward implementing personalized changes, customizations, and additions to your website's design and functionality.

FAQ

What exactly is a child theme, and why is it recommended for customization?

A child theme is a separate theme that inherits the functionalities and styling of its parent or main theme. It allows you to make modifications and customizations without directly altering the main theme's core files. Using a child theme ensures that your changes remain intact even after theme updates, preventing the loss of customizations and maintaining the original theme's integrity.

Will the changes I make in the child theme impact the main theme?

No, the child theme operates separately from the main theme. Any modifications or customizations made within the child theme remain confined to its files and do not alter the main theme. This ensures that your customizations are isolated, maintaining the integrity of the parent theme while allowing you to personalize the child theme as needed.

Do I need a child theme even for small design changes or modifications?

It's a good practice to use a child theme regardless of the scale of modifications. While minor changes may seem innocuous, using a child theme ensures that even small adjustments won't impact the main theme. This approach maintains a clean separation between your modifications and the original theme, safeguarding against unintended consequences.
